The Wisconsin State Fairtastic Poster Art Competition is the first annual poster competition for 2014 and is a way to celebrate and engage local and statewide artisan talent. The poster competition call for entries starts December 19, 2013 for all interested Wisconsin artists age 18 and older, and targets artists who have a passion for the Wisconsin State Fair.
The top four works of art will be selected by a panel of judges and the top four artists will be awarded a $400 stipend to complete a second draft. A second rounding of judging will take place to review the second drafts and conduct personal interviews with each of the top four finalists to determine the winner. That artist will then receive a $1000 cash prize upon the completion of the final artwork.
The Grand Champion of the Wisconsin State Fair Poster Competition will be announced June 11, 2014. Poster and postcard recreations of the winning artwork will be available for purchase at the 2014 State Fair, as well as online before and after the Fair, while supplies last. All proceeds from poster and postcard sales will support the Wisconsin State Fair Park Foundation.
To submit art into the competition, entrants must submit a first draft sketch of their entry that features the "Wisconsin State Fair experience." This concept is open to interpretation, but may include a showcase of rides and games, a specific activity or place, a favorite animal, delicious food or other memorable tradition. Entrants will also be asked to submit several portfolio items that demonstrate their artistic ability, and all entries must be two-dimensional art.
First draft submissions for the inaugural art poster competition must be postmarked or hand-delivered by Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. All questions and entry inquiries should be directed to Jill Albanese at firstname.lastname@example.org.
