WEST ALLIS – At its April Board of Director’s Meeting, the Wisconsin State Fair Park Youth Foundation awarded two grants to the Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association.

The first grant, in the amount of $3,750, was awarded to support the WLBA’s annual Master Stockman Scholarship program.  The Master Stockman program recognizes outstanding youth who excel in junior livestock activities and leadership skills.  Twelve young people are selected from four state districts and compete statewide for the coveted Master Stockman title.  Three winners and three runners-up are selected to receive the scholarships.

Junior Livestock Show Camp.   This show is open to all Wisconsin youth interested in livestock.  The camp will be held June 13 – 15, 2008 at Wisconsin State Fair Park.  Youth are housed at the Tommy G. Thompson Youth Center.  Presenters from across the US teach the youth about animal health care, feeding and management skills, showmanship and leadership traits, ethics and food safety.

The Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association was formed in 1902.  Both the Master Stockman Scholarship and Livestock Show Camp are components to their Youth Livestock Development Program.  Over 500 Wisconsin youth participate in WLBA activities each year.
